I’m sharing recipes and tips on being frugal while polishing up my photography and creative writing skills. There’s an occasional spiritual discussion, a book review here and there, and probably more pictures of my dog than are strictly necessary. It’s part chat with a girlfriend over a glass of sweet tea, part conversation overheard in the grocery store checkout line, and part Thanksgiving dinner with the crazy branch of the family.

What Was Your Favorite Wedding Gift?

What was your favorite wedding or bridal shower gift? What makes a GREAT bridal shower? These are not idle questions - I am a woman on a mission. My eldest niece is getting married this Fall and I am planning a bridal shower for her. I want it to be fabulous, awesome, and beastly! She hasn't registered anywhere yet, and since she and her handsome hubby-to-be have already set up housekeeping they technically have all the basics. In my humble opinion the most important things to register for are thick, luxurious towels, high thread count sheets, and good everyday dishes and cutlery, because they are things you won't spend money on when you're newly married and counting your pennies, but they are WONDERFUL to have. And as far as the shower goes, I will break the knees of anyone who suggests games - other than that I'm pretty open. I know you have an opinion - please share!

My favorite wedding shower gift was from my Aunt Millie. A sugar and cream pitcher that had been given to her when she and Uncle Jimmy married and it had belonged to his grandmother. I still have them and it is still as beautiful as the day I received them. I've had them 47 years. I have no idea how old they are.

I think couples showers are the most fun.

A friend of mine said that the best gifts she got were gift cards to lowes and home depot. They got enough to buy new appliances and a hot water heater.

Two words - TIP JUNKIE! She's the go to gal for ideas for bridal showers.

Hmmm ... gifts.

I agree that towels and sheets would be on my list, as well as wonderful Yankee Candles. I'd also love a KitchenAid mixer.

Think Brett and I can get married again, so I can get some new stuff?

I like your idea about dishes. A nice set is something most people don't buy themselves.
